Terms of Service

1. The agreement
By using ClueKiln you agree to these Terms. If you don't, please don't use it.
2. The service
ClueKiln publishes daily logic-grid puzzles, plus bonus sets earned through play. We may change, add or remove features. We try hard not to break your history: your solved puzzles and your record of them are meant to last.
3. Age
You must be at least 13. If the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for consenting to online services, that age applies to you. We may ask you to confirm your age, and we may close accounts we believe belong to someone under it.
4. Your account
- One account per person. Don't share an account, and don't run more than one.
- A display name is required. You can change it whenever you like; you can't remove it. It must not impersonate anyone, imply an association with us, or contain slurs or harassment. We may require a change.
- Your name appears on public leaderboards only if you switch that on. It's off by default, and switching it off removes you again immediately.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else is using it.
5. Fair play
Solve the puzzles yourself. The details are in the Acceptable Use policy, which forms part of these Terms.
We check submitted solves automatically, and solves that look automated are set aside — they don't count towards leaderboards, embers or stats. You will be told, and you can ask a person to review it. A moderator looks at the solve and either reinstates it or explains why not; you get the outcome and the reason.
Players can also report a solve they believe is cheated. A report never removes anyone by itself — only a moderator can do that, after reviewing the solve.
6. Consequences
Repeated confirmed cheating removes you from the leaderboards for a period.
- Three upheld cases within three months: six months off the leaderboards.
- Further sets escalate (twelve months, and so on).
- We may shorten, extend or cancel any of it at our discretion.
You keep playing. You keep your embers, your bundles and your whole archive. You simply don't appear on the boards. Results obtained by cheating may be removed.
Embers, bundles, stars and trophies have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money, and are not property.
For serious or repeated abuse — harassment, attacks on the service, or persistent cheating — we may suspend or close an account.
7. Our content
The puzzles and the site are owned by the operator of ClueKiln. What you may and may not do with them is set out in Content and Copyright.
8. Your content
Your display name, your notes and your solve record remain yours. You give us only the licence needed to run the service: to store them, show them back to you, and — if you've opted in — show your display name on public leaderboards.
9. Advertising and affiliate links
We may in future carry advertising or affiliate links (for example, to puzzle books at online retailers) to support the site. Where we earn a commission, we will say so. See the Privacy Policy for what that means for your data.
10. No warranty
ClueKiln is provided "as is". We don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that every puzzle is flawless. Where a puzzle turns out to be faulty, our remedy is to fix or withdraw it.
11. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator of ClueKiln is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost data, profits or goodwill. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Consumers keep their statutory rights.
12. Changes
We'll post material changes before they take effect. Continuing to use ClueKiln after that means you accept them.
13. Law
These Terms are governed by the law of the operator's home jurisdiction, except where the law where you live gives you rights that cannot be taken away.
